LAUNCH TECH USA is First Scan Tool Manufacturer to Implement NASTF Scan Tool Validation

In a groundbreaking move, Launch Tech USA is the first aftermarket scan tool manufacturer to implement the National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF) scan tool Validation program. This collaborative effort aims to address critical issues surrounding vehicle security and the integrity of automotive repair services, setting a new industry standard.

Reducing Car Theft: A Collaborative Approach

2024 is tracking to be the worst year on record for automobile theft in the USA. The average rate of motor vehicle theft in a sample of 34 American cities was 105% higher in 2023 than 2019. (Council on Criminal Justice: Trends in Motor Vehicle Theft) NASTF and Launch Tech USA are working with law enforcement to slow and eventually eliminate car theft through security functions of scan tools. The partnership between Launch Tech USA and NASTF is focused on two  primary objectives: reducing car theft and reducing tool theft. By implementing advanced technologies and protocols, the two organizations are working hand-in-hand to ensure that only authorized individuals can access and operate security-sensitive operations. This industry-wide initiative marks a significant step forward in safeguarding vehicles and their rightful owners.

Validating Security Functions

At the heart of the scan tool validation process are the security functions that mirror the OEM software and implementing 2 Factor Authentication using NASTF SDRM credentials when performing these operations. Launch Tech USA is the first scan tool manufacturer to go live with this program, providing improved accountability when performing security related functions with a high level of confidence in the user's credentials and authorization.

Securing Automotive Diagnostic Tools

In addition to addressing car theft, the collaboration between Launch Tech USA and NASTF also aims to tackle the pressing issue of tool and property losses associated with the theft of key programmers. By enhancing the security measures surrounding these invaluable assets, the partnership aims to safeguard the investments of locksmiths and automotive repair professionals.

Protecting Locksmiths and Automotive Professionals

Locksmiths can find themselves in harm's way when handling sensitive security functions. Through this partnership, Launch Tech USA and NASTF are committed to reducing the risks faced by these essential automotive professionals. By ensuring that locksmiths have access to secure and reliable tools, and eliminating the value in the tools if stolen, the collaboration seeks to minimize their exposure to potential threats.

Aligning with Industry Best Practices

By requiring a validation process that aligns with the methods determined by the OEMs, Launch Tech USA is setting a new standard in the aftermarket industry. This approach not only enhances security but also demonstrates the company's dedication to innovation and the advancement of the automotive repair sector.

The NASTF Secure Data Release Model (SDRM)

At the core of the validation program is the NASTF Secure Data Release Model (SDRM), which serves as the platform for verifying tool users. This system requires users to possess a NASTF Vehicle Security Professionals (VSP) credential to perform specific security-related functions.

These functions include:

  • Add a key
  • All keys lost
  • Immobilizer functions
  • Any other process that the OE determines to be security-related

Per NASTF:

“You will be responsible for verifying the identity of the vehicle owner, but you are not required to fill out a D1 .... The tool and NASTF will take care of this process behind the scenes.”

Securing Security Transactions

The SDRM ensures that security transactions are logged and tracked, discouraging theft and providing an additional layer of accountability. By leveraging this industry-leading system, Launch Tech USA and NASTF are taking proactive steps to safeguard the automotive repair ecosystem.

Empowering Automotive Professionals

The partnership between Launch Tech USA and NASTF is not only about enhancing security; it's also about empowering automotive professionals to perform their work with confidence and efficiency.

Seamless Diagnostics Experience

While the validation program focuses on security-related functions, it is designed to have a minimal impact on the overall diagnostic capabilities of aftermarket scan tools. Collision repairers and other automotive technicians can continue to rely on their trusted tools for everyday diagnostics and repairs.

Streamlining Vehicle Security Processes

By integrating the NASTF VSP identification system, the validation program simplifies the process of performing security-sensitive tasks. Automotive professionals no longer need to navigate complex authorization procedures; the tool and the SDRM handle the verification process behind the scenes.

Driving Industry-Wide Transformation

The partnership between Launch Tech USA and NASTF represents a significant milestone in aftermarket automotive scan tools and key programming equipment. This collaborative effort not only addresses critical security concerns but also paves the way for a more secure and trustworthy future between the aftermarket, OEMs, and Law Enforcement.

Pioneering Industry Leadership

As the first aftermarket scan tool manufacturer to embrace this validation program, Launch Tech USA continues to solidify their position as an industry leader. The company's commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions is evident in this groundbreaking initiative.

Fostering Widespread Adoption

The success of the Launch Tech USA and NASTF partnership has the potential to inspire widespread adoption across the automotive repair industry. As more manufacturers and service providers recognize the benefits of enhanced security measures, the validation program will become the new standard for aftermarket scan tools, and hopefully lead to improved access to program a wider range of vehicles with aftermarket scan tools.

Securing the Future of Automotive Repair

The strategic partnership between Launch Tech USA and NASTF marks a pivotal moment in the changing world of aftermarket automotive key programming and repair services. By continuing to address the pressing issues of car theft, tool and property losses, and the safety of professional locksmiths, this collaboration sets a new benchmark for security and integrity in the industry. As Launch Tech USA leads the charge, the future of automotive locksmith services promises to be more secure, efficient, and trusted than ever before.
